Giudecca is a quiet place, but it is not true at all that "nothing happens". Here are the news, from the island's island.

June 6, 2007 - The Biennale Pavillions of Wales and Lebanon are located in Giudecca 801 (ex Dreher brewery)

May 15, 2007 - A booked up June. The first month of activity of the Hilton Hotel is an announced success. No grand opening ceremony yet, though: it's been delayed to September.

April 24, 2007 - The main concern of the inhabitants and the talk of the town is the imminent grand opening of the Hilton Hotel, which replaces the Venice mill (June 1st, 1007). The key word in this story is "guarantee": everyone wants to be reassured: that the hotel will hire Venetians, that new flats will be built ant that the future houses will be assigned in a... transparent way by the municipality. Foreigners will find it difficult to understand, but in Italy it is so frequent to see a change in the procedures, and this restoration took so many years, that anyone wants to be reassured. Now that all agreements and all papers have been signed, there is no other thing to do than work (or watch, as most prefer) and wait.
