giudeca? check the spelling
The spelling of la Giudecca is not easy to foreigners, like most Italian words. "Giudeca", "Judeca", "Judecca" are the most common written variations with practically the same pronounciation (the double c obviously emphasize the sound). Then there are "Guidecca", "Guideca", and so on, with other really ridiculous names created by misplacing letters. The origin and the history of the name itself are the cause of this variety, due also to the languages which had been spoken in centuries, from Latin to German (!). Zudegà (judged) was the Venetian term, together with Spina Longa or Spinalonga (after the spine shape of the island).
So the suggestion is to carefully check the spelling when using a computer, otherwise when typing something different from the correct "Giudecca" - e.g. Giudeca with a single c, or Guideca which is completely wrong mistype - you may miss an (email or street) address or be unable to find your information. Or else, you'll get something different from what you were looking for: Judeca Nova, for instance, is a real estate company based in Giudecca.
