books on la giudecca

There are some books on la Giudecca, most in Italian, or which dedicate some pages to this big island. But you must be clever at noticing them in bookshops. Venice guidebooks have little considered this area (a "Week-end in Venice" guide did not even include it in its pocket map!). You may think it's for political reasons, or you may put yourself in the authors' clothes and guess that the historical center of Venice is such a concentrate of art, history and beauty that you must discard something. Most publications about Venice mention la Giudecca as the best spot for a romantic walk while watching... the Zattere opposite side of the canal (to them, the island is not even worth the effort to have a look at it!).
